Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. Today is a day to celebrate love in all forms: love of family, love of friends, and love of significant others. Love of your country, love of the world, love of humanity!
The songs I’m posting today have a positive attitude towards love.
song:Be Gentle With Me – The Boy Least Likely To
If I had a tv show, I’d want this to be my theme song because it’s so infectious and wonderful. I like to think that I’m the same. Anyway, this one’s about a person who’s been hurt in the past and has a fear or the same thing happening now that they’ve found someone they love.
song:Jóga – Ben Gibbard
This is a cover of an amazing song by Bjork. It’s about the powerful connection that close friends can have.
song:I’ll Believe in Anything – Wolf Parade
The song starts off slowly. The singer starts off by telling his lover that he needs her, and then moves on to discuss the problems that they’ve had together. But none of that matters now. He has a deep and geniune love for her, and he wants the best for her: to take away her pain, her tears, her abuses, her insecurities, and take her to a place where they can finally be themselves, and be free.
song:Bran-new Lovesong – The Pillows
This one’s an instrumental. When I listen to it I think of two people, maybe some close friends or a couple, laying out on a grassy hill in the summer, staring into the sky and watching the clouds.
song:Maps – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
This song is on so many mixes for a reason! It’s just that good. The emotion in Karen O’s voice, the driving guitars, and the booming drums. It’s never been clear to me whether this is a break up song or a love song. True, if it is indeed about a break up, but I think the song is evocative enough to be on the love mix. The way I read it is that it’s about a person who loves someone else so much that they don’t ever want to be without them.
song:Peep-Hole – Guided By Voices
This one’s a short little love song about how someone becomes confused with and interested in another person’s life. That might sound stalkerish, but I think it’s cute. Don’t people who are in love get sort of stalkerish anyway?
song:First Day of My Life – Bright Eyes
I listened to this song all summer; at least once every day, usually in the morning. This is a cheerful love song, and even if you aren’t in love this song will cheer you up. It exudes happiness!
song:Crowning of a Heart – …And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead
This is a hauntingly beautiful song. It could definitely set the mood for… stuff. Lyrically, it’s the inner monologue of a man taking his girlfriend home, and being in awe of her beauty. You need to hear it to understand.
song:Our Secret – Beat Happening
Beat Happening paint a picture for us. A picture of a simple and wonderful life, where you meet a girl, say “I like you”, have dinner with her family, and run away together.
