I have arrived safely (though not comfortably) in the magical land down under after a wonderful 29 hour flight with Cathay Pacific. My first weekend was packed, I have been enjoying the sun and the plus 30 degree weather. I spent some time on the beach which was pretty sweet and then played some poker. I also went out with Laura and a bunch of her friends into Manly for a night on the town. On Sunday I went on Laura’s brother’s speedboat, it was unreal. The thing flies and we took it all the way to the harbour bridge. It was nice to get some wind in my face because it is so damn hot and there is no breeze, and get this, most Aussies don’t even have air conditioning! It is crazy, they just leave all of their windows and doors open. The problem with that is there are tons of cockroaches and other bugs crawling around everywhere. Last night I saw a spider (apparently harmless) the size of my palm. I also saw the semi-final game of a league soccer cup match between Sydney and Adelaide. The game was pretty good, Sydney ended up winning and the place was just going nuts. The Aussies love their sports.
School doesn’t start until the 27th of February so I will be exploring Sydney between the orientation sessions I have to go to for school. I also need to find somewhere that will show the damn hockey games. They televise the Olympics down here but I have a feeling the hockey will be harder to find.
Someone please tell me how the hell we lost to Switzerland and Finland?????
