The Batman, or the Idiot Guy Who Loses Fights and Sucks At Life
February 26th, 2006 by nanaYou probably did a spit take when you read that title. “How could Nana of all people diss the Dark Knight Detective???” Well, you can all rest easy because all it not as it seems.
I don’t get a chance to watch tv very often while school is on, because I don’t have cable in my apartment. As such, I’m behind on alot of pop culture stuff. More importantly, I miss out on all the cool cartoons (and happily, I miss out on all the terrible ones! I’m looking at you, Battle B’Daman!) However, on this reading week I got to catch the newest iteration of the Batman series in animated cartoon form, titled “The Batman.”
I had seen images and screen caps from the show online before seeing the show, so I knew about it’s angular and sleek style. Visually, this show is stunning. But what really “grinds my gears” is how they portray the Caped Crusader in the show. He was getting his ass kicked! Batman doesn’t get his ass kicked folks, and if you need to ask me why that is then you should stop reading now.
Also, he has this stupid Bat-Palm Pilot or something that alerts him to crimes. I’m sure it also alerts him to drug deals or when his baby momma wants to reach him or something as well.
In his “regular” life, Bruce Wayne is supposed to put up a front of being a spoiled rich kid to draw more attention to himself superficially and allay suspicions of himself leading a double life. In this show, he acts like a wimp around his close friends and seems to be more of a push over than anything else.
ARGH, I can’t get over the fact that he got beaten up so badly. I can’t even finish this post. Just don’t watch it if it’s on TV, maybe it’ll be cancelled or something.
Police ain’t go nothing on me!
February 26th, 2006 by tonySo reading week is now over, and its back to the grind, the joy is overwhelming…no..it isn’t…
Anyways, when I was home catching up on the local news in the newspaper, I came across an article which made me laugh.
Nothing satisfies me more then seeing the cop which harassed my friend and I last summer (the blogged account!, you have to go down to the second article), being suspened from duty (with pay), pending an investigation (for what…they didn’t say, but I think it was for being a complete asshole). The cop had been seen by many in town as going around on a power trip, (and being an asshole), so I guess he got what was coming…I will celebrate this occasion with alcohol and disorderly conduct.
You know what is awesome, getting your computer fixed and returned in less then 3 days…Dell you are amazing…I was so wrong, they are awesome, and do a good job, if my computer lasts for a few more years, I’ll be satisfied with my purschase, if not, I will curse Michael Dell’s name and company.
I just had my first reading week
February 25th, 2006 by Hiro…and it was the biggest waste of my time ever.
During the whole week I was at home in Belleville I had one productive day…and it was because I bought new shoelaces and got a haircut.
Although this is my 3rd year of university I’ve never had a full reading week beacuse I used to be in engineering so in 1st year I only had 2 days off – Thursday and Friday of reading week – while non-mathies and non-engineers had a whole week off and in 2nd year I was on co-op working in Ottawa so I didn’t get a reading week at all. I never really cared though and now that I’ve had one, can’t say that I’m any happier.
I’m beginning to wonder why I even bothered going home but on the other hand it was nice to have a week of doing absolutely nothing except playing video games, watching tv, spending an absurd amount of my day sleeping (I woke up at 5:30pm on Friday) and eating like a gluttonous pig. I only do it a few times a year, namely during the weeks after exams and during Christmas, but I feel it’s important beacuse it gets it out of my system and it reminds me what a waste of time it is so that for the rest of the year I don’t even care to play games or watch tv. It’s weird…but it’s my thing.
I mainly came home because my friends Ryan, Jay, Jordan, Liam and Cowan were in Waterloo last weekend on a roadtrip so I had a free ride back, otherwise I might’ve just stayed in Waterloo. It was an interesting ride back since soon after we got onto the 401 Ryan’s car’s stereo died because the batteries were low. We then realized that the alternator wasn’t working and it wasn’t charging the battery nor was it powering the car.

By the time we got to about Milton we were at a service station and the car wouldn’t start up. Cowan was driving his truck so he came and gave us a boost and we were back on the 401. No more than 10km later, Ryan’s car didn’t even have enough juice to change gears and it completely died on the 401 and we coasted to a stop, luckily right by an on-ramp so there was lots of open road to stop and get another boost. We managed to get off at the next off-ramp and the car died again in a parking lot where we finally called CAA and got a tow all the way back to Belleville. Good times.
“Everyday is a G’Day in Australia……”
February 23rd, 2006 by mike….until you log on to tsn.ca and see that Canada has lost to Switzerland, then Finland, and finally Russia. What the hell is going on?? I had to suffer the indignity of seeing Canada lose to Russia while watching the clock on the live scoreboard tick down the final 15 minutes of the game. Very depressing.
Other than that, things here have been pretty good, although this week has been a bit slow. I am just trying to get everything organized for school, which starts on the 27th. I don’t really know if I can call it school though, if I get into all my classes (all 3 that is) I will only have to attend class on Tuesday and Wednesday. 12 hours of class in two days, such a small price to pay for sweet sweet 5 day weekends.
On Wednesday I had my first orientation day, where I was told this disturbing fact. According to the courses I am taking and how much they are worth, I am supposed to spend 27 hours a week on school work, or 9 hours per each class. This is on top of the 12 hours of class time I have. I will let you know how many hours I put in after next week. In fact, I am going to start a betting site. The over/under on the amount of school work outside classtime that I do next week will be 4, over/under on time spent at the beach will be 15, send in your bets please.
On Wednesday night I was introduced to Australia’s favourite sport, Rugby. I played OzTag, which is basically flag rugby. Once I figured out the rules I did pretty well. Only problem was that I had to borrow these special shorts that the flags velcro too and these shorts must have been girls shorts. Let’s just say the upper thigh made a bit of an appearance, unfortunate because I have not had time for much tanning. Once I get my own shorts I will be a force to be reckoned with, mark my words.
This weekend should be a big one though, big night out in Sydney tomorrow night, then a big beach party for school orientation on Saturday, and off to Bondi Beach for Sunday, should be good times.
Anyway, I am off to plan my mini-vacation for my spring break, I get 16 days off in April or something like that, not too shabby.
How’s the weather over there?

The words of Interruption
February 22nd, 2006 by ruaWith a cost of damaging my laptop’s egde, my trip to the University College of Conrad Grebel was worth, where I started to writing this song.

It’s fun to hear people’s response, because for almost every composition of mine, they get titled by random thoughts depending on the situation or the “mood” at the moment. This time, a good friend of mine from Grebel gave me fresh and consolable name of Sun Stereo.
This is Sun Stereo played by Black Angels, composed by Rua Reasons.
This is yet an intro and a first verse without lyrics, and I am currently working on further elements.

And Welcome to the PI, Mike! We Salute you.
Machines fail….at life
February 19th, 2006 by tonyOK, you want to know whats awesome?
When the video card on your laptop just implodes, and your left without a computer for school, thats what is awesome.
But Michael Dell got lucky…it still was on warranty so there will be no vendetta…just a pure “disliking” of his products.
No “raging against the machines” yet
So yeah…SPRING BREAK
And I’m spending it in Belleville! That is what I call awesome.
Woah, another new face, (welcome Mike) it’s like…expanding our horizons…you know!
yeah….
Have a good break everyone, I’ll catch you all on the flip
A new addition to the family
February 19th, 2006 by HiroI’d like to welcome Mike Prisco to Pleasant Interruption.
He was my housemate for the last year and now he’s in Australia on exchange for the next 8 months…lucky bastard. He’ll be sharing with us his stories as he finishes what he started 2 years ago…and conquers Australia.
Cheers to some pleasant interruptions from the land down under.
Greetings From The Land Down Under
February 19th, 2006 by mikeI have arrived safely (though not comfortably) in the magical land down under after a wonderful 29 hour flight with Cathay Pacific. My first weekend was packed, I have been enjoying the sun and the plus 30 degree weather. I spent some time on the beach which was pretty sweet and then played some poker. I also went out with Laura and a bunch of her friends into Manly for a night on the town. On Sunday I went on Laura’s brother’s speedboat, it was unreal. The thing flies and we took it all the way to the harbour bridge. It was nice to get some wind in my face because it is so damn hot and there is no breeze, and get this, most Aussies don’t even have air conditioning! It is crazy, they just leave all of their windows and doors open. The problem with that is there are tons of cockroaches and other bugs crawling around everywhere. Last night I saw a spider (apparently harmless) the size of my palm. I also saw the semi-final game of a league soccer cup match between Sydney and Adelaide. The game was pretty good, Sydney ended up winning and the place was just going nuts. The Aussies love their sports.
School doesn’t start until the 27th of February so I will be exploring Sydney between the orientation sessions I have to go to for school. I also need to find somewhere that will show the damn hockey games. They televise the Olympics down here but I have a feeling the hockey will be harder to find.
Someone please tell me how the hell we lost to Switzerland and Finland?????
