Finally, CUTC is over!

January 15th, 2006 by Hiro

Whew! wow that was one of the most intense weeks of my life and finally I can rest.

Over the last week, Strickland and I must have spent over 100 hours filming and editing videos for the conference and barely got any sleep. It was a blast though and the videos were definitely worth all the effort.

I pretty much brought my entire desk (minus the desk of course) to the hotel and setup a sweet video editing suite in our room. As Strickland said…it felt like we were doing a stakeout or something. And something about feeling we should have sniper rifles or something heh.

Here’s a picture of the desk in our hotel room:

We made 3 videos in total and they were all well received by the delegates so I’m happy that they enjoyed them. A lot of people were asking for copies of our infamous “Biology of the Geek” video so who knows, it mights spread around on the internet haha. We’ll be uploading the videos on the net sometime in the coming week for the world to download.

Now it’s time to rest…

I had a thumbwar with Mike Lazaridis

January 14th, 2006 by Hiro

I just wanted to let the world know that I, Hiro Dozono, alongside Matt Strickland double-teamed Mike Lazaridis of RIM fame in a thumbwar. That’s right. Me, Matt Strickland, and Mike Lazaridis. The man who brought the Blackberry to the world. A thumbwar. And not a Blackberry thumbwar either. This was for real men. An old school thumbwar.

We had a 1-minute short planned out but some stupod reporter was vulturing him after his keynote speech. I hate stupid reporters that ask the dumbest questions with answers that can be looked up on the internet.

Anyway, we managed to film just the thumbwar part and we might film the other parts later with a hand/thumb actor and make a cheesy short.

Here’s a screenshot of the video

This is an Update About School

January 12th, 2006 by nana

It’s not that hard for me to get back into the swing of the whole “school” thing after a break, but it still takes a bit of effort. So that’s where I’ve been of late: just brainwashing myself back into school work mode… which I haven’t been able to do for the past 13 or so years of school, so wish me luck!

However, I am making some progress. I spoke up for maybe the first time in two years in a class! Also, a professor that I did not care for actually impressed me today, and earned himself two Nana points. What these points do or are used for, nobody knows! I may have given out thousands of unreimbursed points to date.

In classic Tony form, I will give you an “other things” section.

Other Things

There is a party this weekend, where I will make a fool of myself once again. It’s come to a point where I’m making a fool of myself more than being normal. I’d say it’s about time to declare myself a fool.

CUTC Today!

January 11th, 2006 by Hiro

CUTC – Canadian Undergrad Technology Conference – which I am helping organize begins later today in Markham. It’s almost 9am and I’ve had about 2 hours of sleep and won’t be getting anymore. My friend Matt Strickland and I have but one mission – to make the conference fun. Essentially we’re making a bunch of videos to show during the conference, doing a 1-1.5 hour late night-style show and partaking in general funness throughout the conference. The last week we’ve spent countless hours filming and editing video. I’m getting tired as hell but I’m pumped for the conference.

Anywho, back to editing more videos…hopefully there’ll be internet at the hotel.

Funny blog by Liberal speechwriter

January 8th, 2006 by Hiro

I’m insanely busy for the next week since CUTC (Canadian Undergrad Technology Conference – www.cutc.ca) is coming up this Wed-Sat and with a million things to do for it (I’m helping make videos and such which I will share after the conference is over) I don’t have time to really sit down and think much less write blog posts.

But I do have time to share this blog that my friend Strickland pointed out to me. It’s a blog written by Paul Martin’s chief speechwriter and it’s just hilarious. Whether or not you love or hate the Liberals you’ll love the blog. So go read it!

Back in Black

January 5th, 2006 by rua

Hello, everyone.

From the week long of vacation, I’ve come home, and settled down once again for the academic challenge.

Above all, I appologize for the long absence.

Consequtive postings about my last week extravaganza will follow.

Au revoir, and Happy new year!

Me: My facial hair is growing in quicker now, that’s weird.

Tony: (sarcastically, or jokingly?) Maybe it’s because you’re 20.

Happy New Years

Hope eveyone had a fun and interesting holiday. Yeah!

A new year, a new house!

January 2nd, 2006 by Hiro

New years was pretty decent, got pretty drunk with Tony at some party and then we went to Uzo’s house where Nana and the others(Chi-chi, Kwaku, Iffy – gotta love the unique names. Tony, yours is so plain…you should adopt the use of a Vietnamese name) were at. I remember walking into Uzo’s house and seeing everyone and just being plastered. The proceeding half hour was filled with dancing, screaming and general hilarity.

Here are a couple random pictures I found on my camera:

I’m finally settled into my new house in Waterloo and I love it here! It’s a sweet townhouse that’s less than 15 minutes from school which is so nice since I’ve always lived about 25 minutes from school. We even have a dishwasher and…a fireplace!

We spent most of today cleaning the place up and settling into our rooms and I’m so excited to be back with the old roommates(minus Mike P who’s going off to Australia in a couple months substituted by Ben J) to live here for the next 4 months…it’s gonna be a good term.
