Snowball fights after the bar and McD’s at 4am

November 24th, 2005 by Hiro

Yesterday it snowed like crazy, transforming the city into a winter wonderland. Last night I went out to the Bomber and waited 2 hours in line. It was alright inside but wasn’t the great Bomber night as I was pretty sober by the time we got inside. The real story deals with what happened after the bar. As we stepped outside the SLC(Student Life Centre, where the Bomber is located), there were half a dozen random people outside throwing snowballs at each other. So about 5 of us joined in on the fray. There’s something about a snowball fight that is just so thrilling. I don’t know what. I think it has to do the with the satisfaction of nailing someone with a snowball and hearing the nice whoomp sound. As more people came outside they joined in as well and we had a solid snowball fight of about 15 people. I haven’t had such pure unadulterated fun in a long time.

On the way home we decided to go a little out of our way to visit a 24h McD’s for some delicious, delicious McDeal action. It’s only 24h through the drive-thru so we walked through and they didn’t give us any hassle, although we did wait for quite a while since there was a big line-up. Somehow it didn’t seem weird that we were in a line-up of cars. It was then quite a journey back home as nature tried its best to defeat us with its massive gusts of wind and snow. Although it was battering us with cold and pain there’s always something warm and calming about watching snow descend in the warm glow of street lights. McDonald’s never tasted so good as after that long trek home.

Today I declared it to be a snow day so I stayed home and didn’t bother going to school. Somehow it’s just not as exciting as hearing it on the radio. Don’t you remember back in the high school days being so excited lying in bed just waiting for them to announce all the cancelled busses? Good times.

I’m a total sucker for these performances

I just wanted to share this video of some kids playing Mario theme music on a Marimba at a high school talent show.

The Eye of Terror

November 17th, 2005 by nana

Tuesday nights are always tied up for me. You see, I am the figurehead president of the University of Ottawa Dance Dance Revolution club, and we hold our meetings from 6:00 pm to around 8:30 pm every Tuesday.

This time we got out of DDR club (we being Tony and I, because Tony is the vice-president of this club) later than usual. On the way home, we walked towards this woman who seemed to be walking much slower and erratic than normal people walk, even accounting for the cold.

When we got close enough to her, she asked Tony if he had a smoke, and he politely said that he didn’t and went on his way. Then she turned her attention to me.

I looked into the eye of terror, dear readers. I was transfixed on the spot! I couldn’t move! She asked me if I had a cigarette and I told her I didn’t. Then she asked for some change, and I politely told her that I didn’t have any (and I really didn’t this time… I still couldn’t move by the way) Then came the chilling part.

In a voice that could chill the very fires of hell, she came closer to me and said “Yes you do… you’d give me some change, wouldn’t you?” This is where my fight or flight instinct kicked in, and I was finally able to escape from the clutches of death.

Tony didn’t help me by the way, cause he’s a terrible terrible friend.

A Smashing Debut for the Wild West Scorebox Team

November 12th, 2005 by Hiro

Today I bought 3 records. Like those big vinyl records. I understand that it’s totally random and quite useless to me as I don’t even own a record player however I bought them because I’m learning how to DJ at school and I’m going to practice with them. I want to practice hardcore and become an awesome DJ. Once I am really good I am going to track down DJ McKay (The legendary DJ McKay if you Nicholson folk can remember) and battle him, even though he only DJ’d with CDs so he wasn’t even a real dj.

Continuing on with random things that I do in life, tonight I was exactly half of the University of Waterloo’s hottest team in town….the Waterloo Warriors Women’s Hockey team’s home game scorebox team. My buddy “Stumpy” does the announcements during the game and mans the scoreboard while I control the music and fill in the statsheet. The girls seem to like country so we made sure there was a good selection of country music and both Stumpy and I showed our support by wearing cowboy hats. We like to think we don’t just do a job, we deliver an experience. And oh did we ever deliver. I don’t even know if I’m getting paid but it doesn’t really matter because it feels good knowing we’re helping raise the profile of the women’s hockey game.

This Is What Happened When I Went To The Grocery Store

November 4th, 2005 by nana

I had to go to the grocery store (Loblaws) yesterday, because you can only live on spaghetti and pasta sauce for so long. Upon arriving, I noticed a few differences:

They no longer carry “Berry Burst Cheerios” in the Strawberry variety. They have Triple Berry, but I don’t want that. I want Strawberry. Who wants to eat a veriety of three diffrent berries in their cereal when they can have the ONE berry in “Triple Berry Cheerios” that actually matters? STRAWberry – the star of the show, if you will. Blueberry and Raspberry are mere bit players in the berry world. They’re always the filler berrys wherever they show up. Dont believe me? Take a look at Yogurt cups – you’ll notice that they have a FIELD BERRY type, which has all the lesser berries in it.

Don’t get me wrong or anything, I lke blueberries and raspberries, but I want to pay for the strawberry show, not the “Hey we’re not as good as strawberry, but we’re in this cereal too so we’re going to give you less strawberrys Nana!” show. I’m boycotting the dry cereal industry until Loblaws gets Strawberry Berry Burst Cheerios back.

Also, Loblaws started to carry Pop Tarts (FINALLY!)! And at some point I’m not aware of, Pop Tarts changed from 6 tarts a box to 8. You can’t go wrong with more tarts.
